The Newberg High School trapshooting Team was formed in 2018 to compete in the USA High School Clay Target League. The team had 17 athletes that first year and has grown to over 50 in a short four years. We qualified a team for the National championship shoot in our first season, and qualified two teams every year since. In 2021 NHS landed its first state title in trap shooting.in 2022, the team finished second in the state championships by a meager 3 targets. A Newberg High School Team has made the finals at the National Championships each of the last two seasons.

All shooting during the regular season takes place at the team's home range, Newberg Rod and Gun Club. The range is located on Hwy 99W just south of Dundee. The season runs from the end of March to the end of May and generally involves shooting at the range once or twice a week. The schedule is structured to accommodate athletes who are involved in other spring sports.

Newberg will shoot at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and noon on Sundays. Athletes are required to make one of these two times each week.

It will cost about $450.00 dollars to fund an athlete for the season. Fundraising has historically covered much of that cost, the 2024 team fee will be $145.00. That's a great value! The Newberg Team is co-ed, and open to all 6th through 12th grade students in the Newberg School District. Also, if you attend a high school that does not yet offer trapshooting as a sport, you can get a cooperative agreement signed by your school and compete on the NHS team. Trapshooting is both the safest of all high school sports and the fasted growing high school sport in the nation. Joining is easy, contact the head coach, David Craig for more information at dcraig@newberggunclub.org.

The league requires safety certification prior to competing. There are two options to meet this requirement. The first is to have completed a state hunter safety course. The second is to complete the USA High School Clay Target League online SAFE course.  Targets and ammo for the season are included. If you do not have access to a shot gun, please contact the head coach about borrowing one.
